My whole life, I have been fascinated with the Lord of heaven and earth, the God of Israel, and the Scriptures and how they’ve pointed to one man, the Messiah Jesus Christ. I still remember the first time my friend Tags showed me a glimpse of Jesus in Genesis, which still blows my mind today! *Read Genesis 22 and let me know what you think!* Ever since, I’ve been on a relentless pursuit to know Jesus intimately. His teachings have captivated my heart as the very Way to Abundant Life. His example of servant leadership pops into my mind before every selfish decision. His life and death for my sins overwhelm me with tears and fill me with unexplainable joy all at once. Even after years of following after Him, I learn something new every day. Even after many failures in pursuit of His sinless perfection, His kindness and mercy renew me every morning. He provides for me the help I need, and He treats me better than I deserve! I’ve tasted and seen that He is so, so good! I can’t imagine life without Jesus, without His Spirit, who has filled me with love, joy, and irreplaceable peace!
The Good News of Jesus Christ has been bubbling up, and the pressure within me to tell the whole world about Him is so strong that I cannot contain it anymore. Although, for the first 30 years of my life, my faith has been primarily an individual and intellectual pursuit, in recent years, I have learned something really important about following Jesus: The times I’ve seen God move the most are when I take faith-based action within Spirit-filled community. James, the brother of Jesus, would agree that “faith, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead.” (James 2) Likewise, Jesus Himself says, “Everyone who hears my words and acts on them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock.” (Matthew 7)
Have you ever asked yourself, “Isn’t there more to life?” Have you ever read or heard about the incredible stories in the Bible and felt like your life is nothing like that? If you resonate with these feelings, I am writing to you.
I want to embark on a journey of faith in action, transitioning from mind to matter! The traditional saying is “mind over matter,” which suggests that our minds are more powerful than physical reality. However, “mind to matter” implies that the knowledge of the Lord we hold in our minds can—and should—manifest in our physical reality. Your life should be transformationally Christ-like! I want to challenge my readers to move beyond mere intellect and embrace a faith lived out in the material world.
Over the following weeks, we will explore many different spiritual practices that require physical, intentional action. Drawing on personal experiences, the Scriptures, and the inspiring examples of countless Christians throughout history, I hope to inspire you toward a renewed commitment to following Jesus in tangible ways, which is the only way to a truly fulfilled life.
Areas of faith we will consider: Solitude, Confession, Prayer Walking, Fasting, Caring for the poor, Giving, Art/Music, Declaration, Service, Communion, Baptism, Prophecy, Anointing with Oil, Writing/Journaling, Meditation on Scripture, and so much more!
Please feel free to write to me if there are any other aspects of faith you’re interested in, if you have questions, or if you have any testimonies about your experience with spiritual disciplines. I will ensure they are included in my blog!
The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you,
Mitch Marmelstein
